One of Empower Clinics’ main focuses is helping military veterans obtain medical cannabis registry cards for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its side effects associated with pain, sleep and stress. Empower’s medical doctors and staff can guide veterans through the state of Illinois’ 40 qualifying conditions, physician certification and registry card application forms required by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Veterans already receiving treatment can bring their existing medical records to Empower for physician review and certification, and in the coming months can move forward with cannabis-based and other overall wellness treatment options provided by Empower.

To be eligible, veterans need a DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), a document the United States Department of Defense issues upon a military service member's retirement, separation, or discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States. Located in downtown Chicago at 160 N. Upper Wacker Drive, the clinic is staffed by licensed medical professionals and support personnel. Its opening followed the late August signature of a statewide measure by Illinois’ governor to expand access to medical cannabis as an alternative for opioid painkillers.
