Italian authorities are pushing for municipal utility A2A SpA (A2A.MI) and Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) to reach a "good" industrial deal in their negotiations over Edison SpA (EDN.MI), said Undersecretary Stefano Saglia Wednesday.

"I hope the negotiations continue, and that without any pressure, they lead to a good industrial accord in the interest of the parties involved," said Saglia, the top government official dealing with energy at the industry ministry.

Edison, which is Italy's No. 2 electricity and natural gas company, is controlled by A2A and France's EDF but the two have been bickering over governance.

Saglia also said he welcomed EDF's Chief Executive Henri Proglio comments Tuesday in which he said negotiations had started and the importance of the Italian market for the French company.

However, the Italian politician said EDF's large impairment charges on 2010 results tied to its Italian operations is "contradictory."
