French utility giant Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) said Friday it has nominated six candidates as directors at Italian affiliate Edison SpA (EDN.MI), including Bruno Lescour, whom the French company would like to become Edison's managing director, replacing Umberto Quadrino.

EDF said it has nominated its own Chief Executive Henri Proglio, Chief Financial Officer Thomas Piquemal, Jean-Louis Mathias, Lescoeur and Adrien Jami as its representatives on the Edison board, along with GianMaria Gros Pietro as an independent director.

Umberto Quadrino's mandate ends on April 26.

EDF is the biggest shareholder in Edison with about 50%, and has the right to select the Italian company's chief executive.

Earlier this week, people familiar with the matter told Dow Jones Newswires that EDF was unhappy with Quadrino's performance. Quadrino is a former Fiat SpA (F.MI) executive who has been at Edison since 2001.

Edison's other main shareholder is Italian utility A2A SpA (A2A.MI).
