Edison SpA (EDN.MI), Italy's No. 2 electricity and natural gas company by capacity, Friday named Renato Ravanelli as chairman.

Ravanelli, whose appointment had been expected, is an executive at Italian municipal utility A2A SpA (A2A.MI).

Edison is controlled by Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) and A2A, although the two have reached a deal for the French company to take sole control of Edison.
