Enel SpA said Wednesday that it will supply its renewable energy solutions to Leonardo SpA, part of the defense company's plan to increase the amount of green energy it uses.

Under the agreement, Leonardo will grant the use of areas within its industrial sites to Enel's business unit Enel X, which will build photovoltaic plants with a peak capacity of around 6.6 megawatts, the Italian energy company said.

The new plants will supply Leonardo factories with part of their energy requirements, avoiding more than 2,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year, it said.

The agreement will see the Leonardo's sites in Nola and Vergiate, Italy, use green energy only, reducing the load on the grid, and costs, the companies said.
