Tod's SpA (TOD.MI) said Thursday its operating profit rose 36.2% in the first quarter, driven by growth worldwide, especially in markets like China.

The Italian luxury goods maker behind brands like Tod's and Hogan said in a statement it expected further growth for the rest of the year.

Earnings before interest and taxes, or Ebit, totalled EUR55.9 million from EUR41.1 million in the same period last year.

Sales rose 17.1% to EUR243.7 million.

The results were slightly higher than the average estimate derived from a Dow Jones Newswires survey of five analysts.

Ebit had been seen at EUR49.3 million and sales at EUR237.8 million.
