SUPERSCAPE SIGNS LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH ACTIVISION TO BRING LEADING PLAYSTATION
2 TITLE TO MOBILE PHONES
multi-player interactive 3D version of Street Hoops(R) under development for
Java and Brew-based mobiles
Superscape announced today that the company is working together with Activision,
Inc. under the terms of a license agreement to develop an innovative 3D version
of the street-style basketball game - Street Hoops(R) - for Java and Brew-based
mobile phones. The game, which will utilise Superscape's Mobile 3D Graphics API
(JSR 184 compliant) interactive 3D Swerve technology, will be accessible for
consumers via over the air (OTA) download and will become available Q4 2003 for
Brew and Q1 2004 for the Java version.
The wireless version of Street Hoops will be a two-on-two game where players
compete for points on a selection of different courts, including Venice Beach,
Jackson Park and Rucker Park. To successfully complete a court, the player must
beat four increasingly difficult teams. Cash prizes are awarded for wins, with
players having the option to use this to either unlock more courts or to buy
additional players. Well known street ball players, including Headache, Hot
Sauce and Speedy, will all be featured in the new Street Hoops game.
Dave Anderson, Director of Business Development and Licensing for Activision,
Inc. said: "We are delighted to be working with Superscape on the development
of a version of Street Hoops for mobile phones. We believe that Superscape's
Swerve technology is a unique development platform, providing high quality
images and the small file sizes which are essential for over the air delivery of
mobile games."
Kevin Roberts, CEO, Superscape Group plc said: "The development and
distribution of high quality 3D content for mobile phones, utilising
well-established IP such as Street Hoops, is a key part of Superscape's strategy
to establish Swerve as the de facto standard for 3D on wireless devices. I am
excited by the opportunity to work with Activision, a leading global publisher,
and believe that this new version of Street Hoops will prove a hit with network
operators, handset manufacturers and consumers."
