International stocks trading in New York were mostly lower
Monday.
The BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts fell 0.43%
to 144.95. The European index eased 0.40% to 143.05, the Asian
index fell 0.67% to 153.34, the Latin American index rose 0.48% to
213.89 and the emerging markets index edged down 0.17% to 261.00.
Deutsche Bank AG (DB, DBK.XE) was among the companies with ADRs
that traded actively.
ADRs of Deutsche Bank rose nearly 5% to $32.15 on Monday, a day
after the German bank named John Cryan as its new chief executive,
succeeding co-chief executives Anshu Jain and Jurgen Fitschen. Mr.
Cryan, the former UBS AG executive and Deutsche Bank board member,
faces the challenge of cutting costs and reshaping relations with
regulators on both sides of the Atlantic.
ADRs of Diageo PLC (DEO, DGE.LN) fell 2.8% to $114.70 on Monday
as several analysts voiced skepticism regarding rumors that
Brazilian private-equity firm 3G Capital Partners LP was
considering making an offer for U.K based Diageo--the world's
biggest liquor company by sales. ADRs of Anheuser-Busch InBev NV
(BUD, ABI.BT), in which 3G Capital Partners owns a stake, declined
3.1% to $120.59.
ADRs of Shire PLC (SHPG, SHP.LN) fell 2.9% to $244.13 on Monday
following a newspaper report that the Dublin-based drug maker had
made an informal approach to Switzerland-based biopharmaceutical
company Actelion Ltd. (ALIOY, ATLN.VX) but had been rebuffed.
ADRs of Syngenta AG (SYT, SYNN.VX) fell 1.7% to $86.81 on Monday
after the Basel-based agribusiness again rejected rival Monsanto
Co.'s roughly $45 billion takeover offer and derided as paltry the
U.S. company's proposal to pay Syngenta a $2 billion reverse
breakup fee if regulators block the deal.
The chief executive of Telecom Italia SpA (TI, TIA, TIT.MI) said
the company expects to use the proceeds from the planned initial
public offering of its domestic wireless-tower unit Inwit to
partially pay down its debt and to invest in ultra-fast fixed and
mobile broadband infrastructure. ADRs rose two cents to $12.73.
