CME Group Inc.'s (CME) second-quarter average daily volume reached 18.4 million contracts, up 12% from the year-ago quarter, the exchange company said Tuesday.

Average daily volume for June was 17.8 million contracts, an 8% increase on the year. Open interest at the end of June was 115 million contracts, up 2% from the end of June 2017, and up 6% from year-end 2017, CME said.

CME said there was double-digit growth across metals, foreign exchange, agricultural, equity index and interest-rate products during the quarter.

Metals volume averaged 674,000 contracts per day in the quarter, up 27% from a year earlier. Agricultural volume averaged a record 1.7 million contracts per day, a 16% increase from the second quarter of 2017, the company said.

Energy volume averaged 2.6 million contracts per day, which was in line with 2017's second quarter, CME said.
