Centra Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: CTRA), a leading provider of
software and services for online learning and training, today
announced that Capitol College, a leading independent college
dedicated to engineering, computer sciences, information
technologies and business, has adopted Centra as their core
eLearning tool for all graduate programs. Centra's solution for
online learning and training is a blended eLearning delivery
solution that helps organizations lower training costs, enhance
productivity and accelerate knowledge transfer across the extended
enterprise. By implementing Centra's online learning solution in
2002 as their key teaching tool for graduate studies, Capitol
College has increased the number of online classroom sessions from
1-2 per night to a maximum of 10 classroom sessions per night. This
has allowed Capitol College to expand their overall course
offerings, while also improving the quality of the online classroom
sessions. With the freedom to offer multiple sessions per night,
Capitol College now limits the number of session attendees to 25
students, allowing for a more personalized classroom experience.
"Having fewer students attend each Centra session gives us the
opportunity to mirror the in-classroom experience to a greater
degree," explained Dianne Veenstra, Vice President for Information
and Outcomes Assessment at Capitol College. "The smaller sessions
give instructors more of a chance to foster one-on-one
relationships with students, which was our goal when we initially
chose Centra as our online learning solution." Now that Capitol
College has firmly established its online learning structure for
all graduate programs, the college plans to offer a hybrid learning
environment for undergraduate studies this summer. Capitol College
will offer an advanced math course where the face-to-face sessions
will alternate between Laurel, Maryland and their satellite campus
in Southern Maryland. This hybrid online course will be taught this
summer, alternating each week between Capitol College's main campus
and their satellite campus using Centra. "Centra provides us with a
sense of dependability that other Web conferencing solutions did
not offer," said Veenstra. "Knowing that our students can easily
adapt to using Centra has opened the door for us to expand online
courses to our undergraduate classes." Not only have Capitol
College administrators and instructors embraced Centra for online
learning sessions, students have flocked to the college
specifically to enroll in their graduate programs. Since
implementing Centra nearly three years ago, Capitol College has
seen an upsurge in online classroom attendance which Veenstra
credits to the reliability and functionality of Centra's software.
Graduate student Melissa Grill, who is currently pursuing her
Master's degree in Information Telecommunications Systems
Management, -has found great success during the past two years in
the Capitol College graduate program .. "Centra is such an exciting
platform to use. The sense of the 'real' classroom experience is
exactly what I need," explained Grill. "The interactivity of the
Centra sessions addresses my need to converse with classmates and
to ask questions of the instructor, just like in a real-time
classroom environment. And, since I can attend the sessions at
home, it provides me with the flexibility to work full-time while
simultaneously working towards my graduate degree." Centra is
designed as a complete eLearning delivery solution for continuous
individual development and accelerated knowledge transfer. Centra's
online learning and training solution provides capabilities that
capture, share and manage information and skills in a variety of
formats to meet the requirements of specific learners or job tasks.
Centra enables customers to gain knowledge of new products and
services and solves critical collaboration requirements around
corporate eLearning programs, corporate universities, new employee
orientation, soft skills training, executive education and HR
benefits and policy updates. About Capitol College Capitol College
