Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress said their Integrated Resource Plan in South Carolina envisions an "all of the above" approach to future energy generation.

The company filed its Integrated Resource Plan, or IRP, with the Public Service Commission of South Carolina on Tuesday.

The plan includes three energy portfolios which provide a range of generation options reflecting its approach to providing power as the state's population and energy consumption grows. The company said it recommends the plan's Portfolio 3 as the most prudent path to comply with state and other applicable laws.

Portfolio 3 includes plans to extend the lives of Duke's nuclear plants. It also envisions extending the license of the Bad Creek pumped hydro storage facility while doubling peak hourly capacity, Duke said. It also envisions new hydrogen-capable natural gas resources, energy storage and small modular nuclear reactors complemented by fuel-free renewable energy, the company said.

Duke will also file a resource plan to the North Carolina Utilities Commission in the coming days.
