PARSIPPANY, N.J., July 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Most people
associate summer with the beach and barbeques, not with preparing
their taxes. Yet, this is an ideal time for taxpayers to
review their tax situation, determine what tax moves they should
make in the remaining months of the year and get valuable tips that
can improve their tax position when filing their 2011 tax return.
To share steps to take now that could result in a larger refund
or reduced amount owed at tax time next year, Jackson Hewitt Tax
Service® is hosting "Big Tax Check-Up Days" every Thursday
throughout the month of August. With office locations
nationwide, taxpayers will be able to locate a participating
Jackson Hewitt office in or close to
their neighborhood. The specific Thursday dates on which to
visit your local Jackson Hewitt
office are August 4th, August 11th, August
18th and August 25th.
"With the year more than half over, taxpayers can still take
actions that will benefit them at tax time – if they know the steps
to take," said Mark A. Steber, chief
tax officer of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. "Our 'Big
Tax Check-Up Days' will provide new and returning clients
with an excellent opportunity to sit down with a Jackson Hewitt tax professional to discuss the
top five things they need to know. The valuable knowledge
taxpayers will gain by taking advantage of this opportunity may
greatly benefit them when they next file their taxes."
Jackson Hewitt's "5-Point
Tax Check-Up" is a free step-by-step guide that preparers
use to review key mid-year considerations. The five areas of
focus are:
- Life changes impact;
- Withholding alignment;
- Savings tools;
- Current-year expense planning; and,
- Completion of a mid-year check-up and year-end tax
estimate.
In addition, Jackson Hewitt tax
preparers will be available to review taxpayers' year-to-date
financial profiles and earnings, as well as review their 2010 tax
return to ensure they took advantage of all of the credits and
deductions available to them. Additional information on how
to amend a return, how to respond to an IRS or state tax notice,
changing a withholding status, and more, will also be
available.
As an additional benefit during the Back to School period,
Jackson Hewitt will provide a free
backpack* to new and returning clients who stop in during the "Big
Tax Check-Up Days." If you prefer, you may choose to
donate your free backpack to a local child in need. Jackson
Hewitt is also serving as a drop-off point for such donations, and
will redirect donated backpacks to needy students in your
community.
