10:18 a.m. ET -- VMware is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the last 12 hours, according to Factiva data. The European Commission, the European Union's executive arm, approved chip maker Broadcom's proposed $61 billion acquisition of cloud computing company VMware. The European Commission said the acquisition didn't violate the European Union's antitrust laws and Broadcom had offered interoperability features for some of its products to competitors. The VMware acquisition is currently still under review in the U.S. and U.K. Broadcom said the deal has already received clearance in Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and Taiwan.
