           AWG Plc sells its Czech Republic businesses for #51 million


AWG Plc has agreed the sale of its water and wastewater holdings in the Czech
Republic for #51 million, subject to Czech Competition Authority approval.

AWG's 54.3 per cent stake in SmVAK, which owns and operates water and wastewater
assets in North Moravia, will be purchased for #38 million by Penta, a Czech and
Slovak private equity investment firm.

AWG's 95.2 per cent stake in VAK JC and 58.7 per cent stake in VAK Beroun, which
own and operate water and wastewater businesses in South and Central Bohemia
respectively, will be purchased for #13 million by Austria-based company Energie
AG.

The payments will be made in cash and the proceeds will be used for general
corporate purposes.

Notes

AWG's balance sheet at 31 March 2003 included SmVAK's net assets of #58 million.
SmVAK made a #6 million contribution to AWG's earnings in 2002/03.

AWG's balance sheet at 31 March 2003 included VAK JC's and VAK Beroun's combined
net assets of #14 million. VAK JC and VAK Beroun made a combined contribution of
#1 million to AWG's earnings in 2002/3.
