Local Heroes Who Make a Difference - ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 18
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- While superstar athletes gain recognition
for heroic feats on the playing field and global humanitarians earn
prestige for their generosity on the international stage, Western
Union and 104.1 KISS FM have teamed up to kick off the Western
Union(R) "Pay it Forward" Hero Contest in search of local heroes
who are making compelling contributions to their communities.
Beginning today, KISS FM is accepting nominations of Atlanta
metropolitan area residents for a chance to be honored as the
Western Union "Pay it Forward" hero. Western Union and KISS FM hope
this contest will uncover through compelling entries local "unsung"
heroes who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in
their communities and help others in significant ways. Two
runner-up winners will each receive $1,000, while the "Pay it
Forward" Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000, which they may
choose to use to continue their good work in their community. "We
are pleased to work with KISS FM on the Western Union Pay It
Forward Hero Contest as they share our passion for honoring the
amazing contributions of people with a commitment to volunteerism
and making a difference," said Margaret Lapkin, director,
marketing, Western Union. "The concept of 'paying it forward'
refers to repaying the good deeds one has received by doing good
things for other people. Western Union has enjoyed a longtime
commitment to supporting others in many countries around the world
and in the U.S., and we see this program as a great opportunity for
us to recognize local heroes and thank them for their steadfast
dedication to good causes." "Atlanta is a beautiful city with
strong sense of community pride and extending goodwill toward
others," said Michael Strawn of 104.1 KISS FM. "When we were
approached by Western Union to team up with them on this program,
we jumped at the chance because we believe strongly in the value of
honoring those who work hard to help others." To nominate an
