RWE named Nikolaus Valerius as chief executive of its RWE Generation subsidiary after current CEO Roger Miesen decided to retire.

Miesen will leave his role at the end of March. He had been with the German energy company since 2009. Valerius, currently RWE Generation's chief operating officer, will assume the CEO role from April 1, RWE said.

Valerius has been with RWE since 1995, the company said. Marinus Tabak will succeed Valerius as chief operating officer of RWE Generation, it said.

"Now that RWE Generation's personnel affairs committee has decided on the changes at the top of the company, the next step will be the supervisory board's approval at the end of February," RWE said.
