PR Newswire (Canada)
VANCOUVER, Dec. 12, 2011 /CNW/ - The Squamish Nation and Run of
River Power ("ROR Power" or "the Company") announced today that a
long-term Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) has been signed that
supports the development of the Company's 25 MW Skookum Power
Project. "We are proud to be working with the Squamish Nation on a
project that will create clean, renewable power and provide a wide
range of economic benefits to the Squamish community," commented
Richard Hopp, President and CEO of Run of River Power. The specific
terms of the IBA remain confidential; however the agreement
provides revenue sharing and job opportunities for the Squamish
Nation as well as protection of their cultural and heritage
resources. Chief Ian Campbell stated, "The Squamish Nation
acknowledges that Skookum Creek and the Skookum Power Project is
located within the traditional territory of the Squamish
Nation. We have worked closely with Run of River Power
ensuring our concerns around cultural and traditional uses of the
area are considered. These are areas of great importance to our
people since time immemorial, and we are pleased to work with
companies that recognize the values and concerns of our Nation."
"We value our working relationship with the Squamish Nation and we
look forward to continued, mutual success," concluded Hopp. The
Company formally signed a 40-year electricity purchase agreement
for the Skookum Power Project with BC Hydro in May 2010.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2012,
