Telenor ASA (TEL.OS), the Norwegian mobile operator, said
Tuesday it will compensate its costumers for all mobile traffic
over last weekend due to an error in its mobile network, which
occurred on Friday June 10 and caused major problems for many
customers.
MAIN FACTS:
-On Friday June 10, no earlier than 1200 GMT, an error occurred
in the mobile network and affected mobile calls and text messages
all over Norway, which only occasionally came through.
-Ragnar Karhus, chief executive of Telenor Norway, said this was
the biggest operational error since the mobile network was
established in 1993.
-Karhus said, "Good coverage and a stable network all over
Norway is the essence of our activities. When such a big error
occurs, compensation is in order. None of our private or business
customers are to be billed for the use of mobile services in the
Whitsun weekend."
-Telenor said there will be no charge for mobile services used
from Friday at 2301 GMT to Monday at 2259 GMT. This applies to all
mobile traffic, both in Norway and abroad, voice traffic, text and
picture messaging, content services and the use of mobile Internet,
Internet connected tablets and PC.
-Telenor said it is now focusing on securing a stable operating
situation, identifying the causes of the error and preventing
similar situations from occurring in future.
-At 0750 shares traded up 1.1% at NOK86.80
