Telenor ASA (TEL.OS), the Norwegian mobile operator, said Tuesday it will compensate its costumers for all mobile traffic over last weekend due to an error in its mobile network, which occurred on Friday June 10 and caused major problems for many customers.

 
   MAIN FACTS: 
 

-On Friday June 10, no earlier than 1200 GMT, an error occurred in the mobile network and affected mobile calls and text messages all over Norway, which only occasionally came through.

-Ragnar Karhus, chief executive of Telenor Norway, said this was the biggest operational error since the mobile network was established in 1993.

-Karhus said, "Good coverage and a stable network all over Norway is the essence of our activities. When such a big error occurs, compensation is in order. None of our private or business customers are to be billed for the use of mobile services in the Whitsun weekend."

-Telenor said there will be no charge for mobile services used from Friday at 2301 GMT to Monday at 2259 GMT. This applies to all mobile traffic, both in Norway and abroad, voice traffic, text and picture messaging, content services and the use of mobile Internet, Internet connected tablets and PC.

-Telenor said it is now focusing on securing a stable operating situation, identifying the causes of the error and preventing similar situations from occurring in future.

-At 0750 shares traded up 1.1% at NOK86.80
