Geneva, 2 May 2024: Wizz Air
Holdings Plc ("Wizz Air"), one of the most sustainable European
airlines, today announces passenger and CO2 emission
statistics for April 2024.
In April 2024, Wizz Air carried
4,911,849 passengers at a load factor of 90.3%. The capacity
operated during the month was nearly flat year-on-year, reflecting
the impact from GTF engine-related grounded fleet. Load factor came
in slightly lower vs last year (-0.6 pp), impacted by the earlier
Easter weekend causing the seasonal rise in outbound travel to fall
in the prior month.
The airline continued to improve its
network and customer offering in April. During the
month:
· Wizz
Air converted its entire London Luton Airport based fleet to the
Airbus A321neo aircraft a year earlier than planned.
· Wizz
Air announced its new aspirational target of powering 10% of its
flights with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030. The new goal
will support Wizz Air's commitment to reduce its carbon emissions
per passenger/km by 25% by 2030.
· Wizz
Air continues to consistently report the lowest CO2
emissions per passenger/km among competitor airlines, with 52.1
grams per passenger/km for the rolling 12 months to 30 April 2024.
For the month of April, CO2 emissions were 52.6 grams
per passenger/km (2.4% higher than the same month last year, due to
the grounding of a portion of the GTF-engine powered
fleet).
