Technology stocks edged down in the closing minutes of trading
Friday, but the Nasdaq Composite Index manage to eke out a third
straight week of gains.
The Nasdaq (RIXF) fell 0.3% to close at 1,978.5.
The tech-heavy index briefly topped the 2,000 level Thursday for
the first time since October, and ended the week up 0.6%. The
Nasdaq also ended the month of July with an 8% gain.
Meanwhile, the Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the
Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) each rose about 0.2%.
The sector took a hit from a decline in shares of NetSuite Inc.
(N), which was off 13.3% after reporting a bigger second-quarter
loss.
Major tech players posted gains, including Hewlett-Packard
(HPQ), IBM Corp. (IBM) and Apple Inc. (AAPL).
Decliners included Yahoo Inc. (YHOO), eBay Inc. (EBAY), Google
Inc. (GOOG), and Sun Microsystems (JAVA).
