Thailand's government is looking for ways to provide aid to its auto industry, including the local operations of liquidity-squeezed General Motors Corp. (GM), Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said Friday.

The Thai government is aiming to provide assistance to the local auto industry, including parts producers, not just for any one company, said Korn.

He didn't elaborate on what sort of aid the government is contemplating to help shore up the domestic auto industry.

The Thai unit of General Motors said Wednesday it is seeking the Thai government's support to facilitate funding for its investment in a THB15 billion ($426 million) diesel-engine and one-ton pickup project.
