More than 140 long-term care facility and
home-based care employees recognized for commitment to keeping
patients and residents safe and well during the COVID-19
pandemic
MatrixCare is pleased to honor post-acute healthcare workers as
part of the company’s “Nominate a Hero” program, an initiative
launched last month to honor the committed employees working for
out-of-hospital care facilities and home-based care organizations
who are going above and beyond the call of duty to keep their
patients and residents informed, safe, healthy, and happy amid the
COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 142 healthcare workers representing over 100
facilities and home-based care organizations nationwide, including
those in skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, life plan
communities, home health and hospice, were nominated by their
colleagues for their heroic efforts during these challenging
times.
The selected heroes’ titles range from director of nursing to
dining services’ sous chef. Their brave actions include everything
from implementing technology that allows residents to communicate
with their family members to ensuring all social distancing and
health guidelines are followed. Many are working beyond their
allotted shifts to socialize with patients, source supplies, and
implement new procedures in alignment with public health
guidelines.
“The healthcare professionals and employees on the front lines
caring for some of our nation’s most at-risk individuals are
working around the clock to ensure everyone’s safety and
wellbeing,” said Steve Pacicco, president and CEO of MatrixCare.
“Our team at MatrixCare applauds these heroes for their enduring
commitment as we aim to raise awareness for their selfless
acts.”
Some of the recognized healthcare heroes include:
- Ashley Collins, director of nursing services with American
Senior Communities’ American Village in Indianapolis, Ind., who has
expertly led the nursing staff at her facility through the
challenges of COVID-19, all while taking care of her young daughter
and being pregnant with her second child.
- Barbara Wood, director of fund development at Beatitudes Campus
in Phoenix, Ariz., who launched a web page sharing information and
changes to procedures so that all residents have up-to-date
information throughout the pandemic.
- Maggie Matsas, assistant director of nursing at Suncrest Home
Health and Hospice in Chicago, who has tirelessly assisted
terminally ill patients in hospice care and provided support for
her fellow colleagues and staff members.
- Irene Carr, director of recreation therapy at Central Island
Healthcare in Plainview, N.Y., who has helped residents and their
families keep in touch during this difficult time by assisting them
with FaceTime and Duo calls.
MatrixCare has been sharing videos featuring these healthcare
heroes and the inspiring nominations submitted by their colleagues
