DENVER, Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- DaVita Kidney Care, a division of DaVita Inc.
(NYSE: DVA), a leading provider of kidney care services in the
United States, celebrates its more
than 18,000 nephrology nurses across the U.S. and in 10 other
countries around the world during Nephrology Nurses Week.
Nephrology Nurses Week, designed by the American Nephrology
Nurses Association in 2005, honors nurses who care for patients
with kidney disease and happens during the second full week of
September every year.
"Being a nurse can sometimes feel like a thankless job,
constantly putting the needs of others above our own," said
Mandy Hale, RN, vice president of
nursing for DaVita Kidney Care. "We
want our nurses to know how deeply appreciated they are for
delivering selfless compassion and competent care to more than
225,000 DaVita patients."
DaVita's nursing strategy involves a number of programs to
support its goals to grow, engage and attract nurses. For example,
DaVita launched its THRIVE program to help empower its nurses and
support their development. The five-month program—which allows
participants to shadow local nurses and receive centralized
training in multiple U.S. regions—was designed to develop
high-potential nurses, clinical coordinators and clinic nurse
managers for positions in operation management.
Additionally, DaVita leaders hold nurse roundtable discussions
where U.S.-based nurses gather in Denver at DaVita's headquarters to spend a day
brainstorming and sharing ideas about patient care and nursing. The
goal of the roundtable discussions is to improve the care delivery
and gather ideas for future initiatives.
DaVita is also piloting a program called Bridge to Your Dreams,
which aims to create a new pipeline of Registered Nurses (RNs) by
supporting high-performing patient care technicians (PCTs) who want
to make the transition from PCT to RN. Through this program, DaVita
provides fully-funded tuition, scheduling assistance to help manage
and balance work, school and family commitments, professional
coaching and assistance with role placement.
Finally, DaVita encourages its nurses to gain and share nursing
knowledge through programs such as the LeaRN Challenge, where
nurses are nominated and selected to attend professional nursing
conferences such as American Nephrology Nurses Association
conferences and the Annual Dialysis Conference.
