Part of the Volvo Engine Architecture family - ranked as one of the best engine families in the world - this engine offers 245 HP and 350NM in torque and emissions as low as 40g CO2/km (according to the Swedish Transport Administration's calculation method for BIOGAS), and is expected to be one of the greenest, most powerful natural gas engines in the world.

Westport expects most customers will seek bi-fuel operation today with high performance gasoline direct injection coupled with Westport's new natural gas combustion technology.
"Westport has provided a turnkey solution that includes technology research and development, production, installation and market support," said Anders Johansson, Managing Director, Westport Sweden. "As gasoline engines evolve, it is critical that OEMs offer natural gas versions of these engines that retain the expected performance while providing the environmental and economical benefits of compressed natural gas."

Volvo: Delivery of Complete Electrified Bus Solutions to Cities
Jul 21, 2014 05:16:00 (ET)
Volvo Buses and ABB have signed a partnership agreement regarding automatic e-bus chargers for electric-hybrid and full-electric Volvo buses. The cooperation enables the companies to deliver complete electrified bus solutions to cities.
GÖTEBORG, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 2014--
Regulatory News:
Under the global partnership agreement, Volvo Buses (STO:VOLVA) (STO:VOLVB) will supply electric-hybrid buses and full-electric buses. ABB will supply standard-based fast-charging solutions for the electric vehicles.
"We are delighted to enter into partnership with ABB. Together, we have a complete and competitive offer for cities around the world that want to switch to a sustainable public transport system," said HÃ¥kan Agnevall, President Volvo Buses. "Electric-hybrid buses and full electric buses are tomorrow's solution for urban public transport. Volvo will team up with a few global actors in this field, and ABB is one of them."
"We are very pleased to partner with a global transportation industry leader which shares our vision of e-mobility in line with ABB's commitment of power and productivity for a better world," said Pekka Tiitinen, head of ABB's Discrete Automation and Motion division. "Urbanization is at a historic high and is stretching the transport infrastructure of cities around the world. Our collaboration will help to support sustainable and cost-efficient transportation solutions to meet rising commuter demand."
The partnership involves working towards a standardization of automatic e-bus fast charging on the market. This can include the communications protocol between infrastructure charging solution and e-bus, electrical interface, and specification of the automatic connection system (ACS). The ACS is located on the roof of the bus and connects the bus with the fast charger at selected charging stops.
The first joint project will be the implementation of Volvo Electric Hybrids and automatic e-bus chargers in the Luxembourg public transport system. Potentially 12 Volvo Electric Hybrid buses operated by Sales-Lentz will be running on existing public bus lines in Luxembourg as of 2015.
Sales-Lentz has a history of being an early adopter and was the first European operator running Volvo Hybrids already in 2009. This project is another strong example of a public & private partnership between Sales-Lentz, the ministries of Luxembourg and Volvo Buses. The project is integrated into Luxembourg's Mobility Network (LMN), a network that links different mobility projects in the Grand Duchy to exploit synergies and develop common visions for the mobility of the future.
The Volvo Electric Hybrid, which reduces energy consumption by 60% compared with a conventional diesel bus, will be officially launched at the IAA exhibition in Hannover in Germany in September. Volvo's first full electric buses will be launched in June 2015 within the ElectriCity project in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Volvo Buses launched its first hybrid bus in 2009 and has delivered nearly 1,600 hybrids to 21 countries. The company is a leader in electro mobility.
As a leader in power and automation technologies, ABB plays a vital role in the development of sustainable modes of transport by providing efficient charging infrastructure solutions for electric vehicles. ABB technologies ensure intelligent infrastructure networks with an industry leading uptime while maintaining good power quality in the grid. As the market leader in fast charging solutions, ABB delivered over 1,500 DC fast-charging systems for passenger vehicles worldwide since 2010, and rolled out charging networks for automotive, utility, government and retail customers including nation-wide networks in the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark.

Volvo Posts Profit In Q1 On Higher Demand In Mature Markets
4/25/2014 2:44 AM ET
Swedish automaker AB Volvo (VOLVY.PK) reported Friday a profit in its first quarter, compared to last year's loss, benefited by higher sales and improved price realization, despite adverse currency impacts. The Sales were driven by demand growth in mature markets in North America, Europe and Japan, as well as China.
President and CEO Olof Persson said, "The measures we are implementing to increase the Group's profitability are running according to plan and starts to have a positive impact on our gross margin and costs, but there is still more work to do in terms of cost reductions and this is the Group's main focus for 2014."
For the first quarter, income attributable to equity holders of the parent company was 1.08 billion Swedish kronor (about $164 million), compared with a loss of 304 million kronor last year. Earnings per share were 0.53 krona, compared with a loss of 0.15 krona a year ago.
Operating income was 2.27 billion kroner, higher than prior year's 482 million kroner. Operating margin was 3.5 percent, versus 0.8 percent a year ago. The latest quarterly results included restructuring charges of 318 million kroner, compared with last year's 14 million kroner.
Adjusted operating income, which excluded items, totaled 2.59 billion kronor, compared to 496 million kroner a year ago. Adjusted operating margin was 3.9 percent, as against 0.9 percent last year. Currency exchange rates had an adverse impact of 1.10 billion kronor on operating income.
Quarterly net sales reached 65.65 billion kronor, 13 percent increase from last year's 58.34 billion kronor. Adjusted for currency movements and acquired and divested units, sales went up 15 percent.
Volvo noted that the demand for its products continued its gradual improvement in the mature economies in North America, Western Europe and Japan. Meanwhile, the emerging economies in South America and Asia saw weaker demand.
In the quarter, North American sales climbed 28 percent, and that of Western Europe grew 10 percent. Asian sales also increased 11 percent, while sales in South America remained flat with last year.
Segment-wise, sales in trucks increased 18 percent and construction equipment sales grew 10 percent. Meanwhile, sales of buses dropped 3 percent and Volvo Penta sales dropped 2 percent.
Looking ahead, the company said it expects a gradual improvement in Europe over the course of the year and maintains its forecast for the European heavy duty truck market. In North America, the company plans for a slight increase in the production level towards summer.
In Stockholm, Volvo shares gained 1.50 kroner or 1.47 percent on Thursday and settled at 103.40 kroner.

Volvo and Apple Forge Global Alliance
GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Mar 3, 2014 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- Volvo Car Group and Apple Inc. are joining forces to make Apple's widely-used and hugely admired operating system available to drivers, bringing together one of the world's most progressive car companies and the world's most famous technology company.
To view the Multimedia News Release, please click:http://www.multivu.com/mnr/65022-volvo-and-apple-forge-global-alliance
The alliance promises to transform the in car experience. Called Apple CarPlay, the new service brings all the features and services familiar to iPad, iPhone or iPod users directly into the car via Volvo's large centre console touch screen display.
The first car to offer Apple CarPlay will be the all new XC90 SUV which will be introduced later in 2014, one of the most anticipated cars of recent years, replacing the original XC90, which redefined the SUV and became the best selling model in Volvo's history.
Volvo enhances Apple's capabilities by linking them to a specially-developed interface that allows drivers to use voice and touch controls to access Apple features and services, ensuring the entire interaction is always safe and easy to use.
With Apple CarPlay, users will immediately recognise their basic iPhone applications, such as phone, messages, music and navigation. The initial offer also features third party audio apps including Spotify, the popular music streaming service.
Volvo's unique portrait screen gives users the benefit of having both Volvo and Apple content co-existing simultaneously, removing the need to switch between a dedicated car and iPhone screen.
"iPhone users will feel completely at home in a new Volvo. We have created a wholly-integrated user experience in our large portrait-oriented touch screen that takes the in-car mobile device experience to a new level. That, coupled with the obvious driver safety benefits of an advanced voice control system like Siri, made Apple a perfect match for Volvo," says Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO, Volvo Car Group.
Facts
Apple CarPlay allows connection of iPhone to the car through a Lightning cable - with Wi-Fi coming in the near future.
The connection is based on a streaming H.264 video feed that returns user input from the touch screen.
Apple CarPlay will be available in forthcoming Volvo models based on the new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), starting with the all-new Volvo XC90 later in 2014.
