                           CHRISTMAS TRADING UPDATE
                                       
John  David  Sports Plc, a leading specialist retailer of fashionable  branded
sports  and leisurewear, today announces details of its 1998 Christmas trading
performance.

In the announcement of the Interim Results on 8 December 1998 we reported that
the JD brand continues to strengthen and has a strong identity and following.

We  can now report that total sales for the five week period to 2 January 1999
increased by 36.3%, including an increase of 6.5% on a like for like basis.

The  company  avoided entering into substantial pre-Christmas discounting  and
gross profit margins have therefore been maintained at anticipated levels.

Since  2 January sales have been maintained at encouraging levels, underlining
the  continued  management  confidence in their trading  formats  and  product
offering.
