UK retail sales across all sectors unexpectedly rose in April
In the UK, retail sales across all sectors surprisingly advanced 5.70% on a YoY basis in April, compared to a drop of 3.50% in the prior month. Markets were expecting retail sales to record a decline of 1.30%.
US CPI dropped more than expected in April
In the US, the consumer price index (CPI) fell 0.80% on a MoM basis in April, compared to a drop of 0.40% in the prior month. Market expectations were for the CPI to drop 0.70%.
US small business optimism index unexpectedly dropped in April
In the US, the small business optimism index unexpectedly dropped to a level of 90.90 in April, compared to a reading of 96.40 in the prior month. Markets were expecting the small business optimism index to advance to 96.90.
Australian consumer confidence index rose in May
In Australia, the seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index registered a rise to a level of 88.1 in May, compared to a level of 75.6 in the previous month.
