Enel SpA subsidiary Enel X and shipbuilder Fincantieri SpA said
Wednesday that they have signed a letter of intent to work on
building and running port infrastructure with a low environmental
impact.
As part of the agreement, the Italy-based companies will work on
cold ironing--which provides a shoreside power source to docked
ships--and on electricity storage and production systems that use
renewable sources and fuel cells, they said. The companies will
focus on management and optimization of energy exchanges in new
infrastructure, they added.
The letter of intent might be subject to future binding
agreements, the companies said.
