Deutsche Lufthansa signed a contract for four long-haul aircraft
from European plane maker Airbus amid a strong rebound in
international travel.
The German carrier group said Tuesday that the additional
A350-900 long-haul aircraft would be delivered later this year,
building on its current fleet of 21 A350-900s.
Earlier this year, Lufthansa ordered 22 long-haul aircraft worth
about $7.5 billion at list price from Airbus and U.S. rival Boeing,
including 10 Airbus A350-1000s, five Airbus A350-900s and seven
Boeing 787-9s.
Travel restrictions and border closures brought international
traffic to a near standstill at the height of the pandemic. Now,
airlines are scrambling for planes to expand capacity to meet
surging demand for international air travel.
