Kvaerner secures US$35 million contracts in Latin America and Europe

LONDON, 19 FEBRUARY 2001: Kvaerner, the Anglo-Norwegian engineering and
construction Group, today announced that it's Pulp & Paper business has
secured contracts from Argentina, Brazil, Austria and Sweden, worth in total,
approximately US$35 million.  The largest, for  Votorantim Celulosa e Papel
(VCP) at their Jacarei Mill in Brazil, will involve the rebuilding and
conversion of an existing digester to COMPACT COOKING.   

Kvaerner's new system will double the capacity of eucalyptus pulp from 1,600
to 3,200 tons per day.  The contract also includes the provision of a new
Kvaerner COMPACT FEED chip feeding system, and Brown Stock Washing, with two
Pressure Diffusers.  Start-up for the new system is scheduled for June 2002.
The contract is a part of VCP's new investment at the Jacarei Mill.
Kvaerner Pulping has also signed contracts for three digester rebuilds - for
Alto Parana S.A. in Argentina, and for the Stora Enso Skutskar and Skarblacka
mills, both in Sweden.

Zellstoff Pols AG of Austria has also awarded Kvaerner a contract for the
upgrading of a recausticizing plant.
