The newly formed Greek government has won a vote of confidence in the Greek parliament providing a mandate to tackle the country’s on-going financial problems and stay within the eurozone.

The Government, led by centre-right New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras, had a majority of 179 out of 300 in the Troika.

Speaking before the vote the Prime Minister argued that “”You have followed the decisions of a three-party government that wants to proceed with reforms and change the country needs” and that “We must stay in the euro according to the verdict of the Greek people.”

Following the vote the Greek government will now focus on a plan of economic reforms, privatisations and secure an extension to the tight deadlines laid down by the recent EU and IMF bailout.
