UK consumer confidence index fell as expected in August
In the UK, the consumer confidence index dropped to a level of -8.00 in August, in line with market expectations and compared to a reading of -7.00 in the prior month.
Euro-zone current account surplus widened in June
In the Euro-zone, seasonally adjusted current account surplus widened to €21.80 billion in June, compared to a revised surplus of €13.90 billion in the previous month.
US initial jobless claims fell more than expected in the week ended 13 August 2021
In the US, the seasonally adjusted number of initial jobless claims dropped to a level of 348.00 K in the week ended 13 August 2021, compared to a revised level of 377.00 K in the prior week. Markets were expecting initial jobless claims to fall to a level of 363.00 K.
US Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index unexpectedly dropped in August
In the US, the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index unexpectedly fell to a reading of 19.40 in August, compared to a level of 21.90 in the previous month. Markets were expecting the index to rise to a level of 23.00.
Japan’s national CPI unexpectedly declined in July
In Japan, the national consumer price index (CPI) unexpectedly fell 0.30% on a YoY basis in July, compared to a drop of 0.50% in the prior month. Markets were expecting the CPI to record a rise of 0.60%.
