Volume Busters of the Day: ALU, RIMM, NOK, FB, GRPN

Alcatel Lucent SA (NYSE:ALU): The stock is trading up on high volume. Alcatel Lucent stock already traded 49.292 million shares so far, in comparison to its usual daily volume of 14.258 million shares. There are rumors abound that the company is in talks with Goldman Sachs with regard to a potential loan.

Alcatel Lucent is cash strapped and is currently looking at various options for financing including asset backed funding and selling of its patents. Its stock is currently trading at $1.135, up 13.50 percent from its previous close of $1.00. The stock is trading at the Price Earnings ratio of 2.44. It has traded in the range of $0.91 and $2.66 in the past 52 weeks. Alcatel Lucent may use its assets as collateral for securing funds from Goldman. Alternatively, the company is also looking into the possibility of selling some of its divisions. However, the stock is trading below its 20 days moving average price and 50 days moving average price of $1.14.

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM): The Canadian telecom company is doing fine today on the optimist surrounding Blackberry 10. The stock is currently trading at $11.69, up 13.94 percent from its previous close of $10.26. It has exchanged 47.746 million shares so far, while its usual average trading volume stands at 24.099 million shares. The stock is trading at the beta of 1.57. Research in Motion has also received a couple of rating upgrades and the stock is doing equally well in the Toronto Exchange as well. The company reported that its Blackberry 10 devices are likely to be available from 2012. Earlier, the devices were scheduled to be released in the beginning of 2013. Research in Motion stock has traded in the range of $6.22 and $18.77 in the past 52 weeks. However, the stock is trading above its 20 days moving average price of $11.65 and 50 days moving average price of $11.58.

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK): Nokia ranked among top traded stocks in the pre-market today and it continued the momentum. 57.692 million shares of the stock have changed hands so far, up from its usual daily trading volume of 53.542 million. Amazon reported the sales performance of Nokia’s Lumia 920 smartphones and placed it at the second spot, just after Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD 4G. Nokia stock is currently trading at $3.55, up 7.25 percent from its previous close of $3.31. The stock is trading at the beta of 1.78. It has traded in the range of $1.63 and $5.87 in the past 52 weeks. The stock is trading above its 20 days moving average price of $3.54 and 50 days moving average price of $3.52. However, Goldman Sachs chose to downgrade the stock from Neutral to Sell. The price target for the stock is set at $1.6.

Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB): The stock is trading mildly down with high volumes. The stock’s current trading volume stands at 23.708 million shares while it trades 54.79 million shares in the regular trading session. The company stock recently came out of yet another lockout and surged. However, it has turned sluggish afterward. Facebook stock is currently trading at $24.10, down 0.90 percent. Its highest price point for the day stands at $24.68 while it touched its lowest price point at $23.88. This week Interpublic Group announced that it has liquidated its investment in the social media company stock. It is rumored that the transaction was worth about $95 million. Facebook stock has price earnings ratio of 124.69 and it has traded in the range of $17.55 and $45 since its IPO debut. The company currently commands market capitalization of $52.12 billion.

Groupon Inc. (NASDAQ:GRPN): Groupon is yet another beaten down stock which is performing rater well lately. The stock is trading 2.06 percent up today at $3.96. Its current trading volume is at 10.898 million while it usually trades 15.645 million shares daily. The company recently reported better than expected results for the fiscal third quarter of the year. Groupon also attracted institutional investment as Tiger Global, a hedge fund, picked up shares of the company. It has been reported that Tiger Global took 9.9 percent stake in the company. The stock is trading above its 20 days moving average price of $3.64 and 50 days moving average price of $3.58. The stock has traded in the range of $2.60 and $25.84 in the past 52 weeks.
