                                 AGM Statement

At today's Annual General Meeting, AEA Technology said that it has made a
satisfactory start to the year. The Rail and Environment businesses continue to
perform well. The Company also announces that it is strengthening the Board,
with effect from 1 August 2003, with the appointment of two new non-executive
directors, Dr Paul Golby, Chief Executive of Powergen UK plc, and Rodney
Westhead, Group Chief Executive of engineering consultancy, Ricardo Group plc.

Chairman Peter Watson said:

"We are building on last year's solid achievement with confidence and our goal
remains one of maximising value for our shareholders. We are also delighted to
welcome Paul and Rodney to the Board. Their respective engineering and financial
knowledge, along with their experience of running quoted companies, will be of
real value as we move into a new phase of the company's development."

Notes:

Dr Paul Golby, 52, is an experienced engineering executive who has had Board
positions with small and large quoted companies. He is currently Chief Executive
of Powergen UK plc, a post he has held since 2002. A mechanical engineer by
training, he was previously an executive director of Clayhithe, the specialist
engineer. Before that he worked for Dunlop plc and BTR, among others.

Rodney Westhead, 59, is Group Chief Executive of Ricardo, the engineering
consultancy, a role he has held since 1996. He was previously its Finance
Director. A Chartered Accountant by training, he is a former Partner of Grant
Thornton for whom he worked for 20 years. He is a non-executive director of
Parkman Group plc.
