So… if the Battery Asset Company owns the batteries NIO isn’t paying for the batteries. NIO is being paid for Battery Swapping Services and asset management.
NIO is also collecting %25 of revenue from BaaS from the Battery Asset Company. Meaning NIO and CATL benefit from each other’s battery swap infrastructure and development through the Battery Asset Company BaaS.
Assuming the Battery Asset Company is still in business.

Sinopec Group, or China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, is a wholly owned company by the China State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission

NIO and Sinopec entered a strategic partnership agreement on April 15, 2021, to collaborate on building a comprehensive charging and battery swapping network in China.

On March 13, 2025 CATL signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Sinopec Group (Sinopec) in Beijing.
…the two parties will accelerate the development of passenger vehicle battery swapping business and explore the feasibility of allocating commercial vehicle battery swapping facilities in integrated energy stations.

Battery Asset Company is State owned. NIO isn’t going anywhere. NIO/BaaS will be implemented in China. CATL and NIo will not compete against each other. They will each serve a different segment and complement each other. IMHO

Battery Swap is here to stay..

On August 18, 2020, NIO, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (“CATL”), Hubei Science Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd. and a subsidiary of Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited (collectively the “Partners”) jointly established the Battery Asset Company. NIO and the Partners will each invest RMB200 million and hold 25% equity interest in the Battery Asset Company respectively. The Battery Asset Company is dedicated to purchase and own the battery assets, and lease the battery packs to users who subscribe to the BaaS model.

Guotai Junan International is ultimately state-owned, with Shanghai State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. as the controlling shareholder and Shanghai International Group Co., Ltd. as the ultimate controlling entity.

Hubei Science & Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd. (HBST) is considered a state-owned entity, specifically a government-related entity (GRE) and a flagship entity of the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone (HTDZ)

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is not state-owned, but rather a private company with investors, including some with connections to the Chinese government, holding stakes

While NIO is a privately held company, it has received significant financial support and investment from Chinese state-owned entities, particularly in Hefei, Anhui province, indicating a strong relationship with the Chinese government

The timing of the GAC and Chinese Government promoting battery swap with subsidies makes sense. NIO said to expect more battery swap partner vehicle deliveries in 2026.
Battery Swap Station buildout has many partnerships and subsidies. NIO isn’t going solo buildout for all the new stations for different brands.

“coordinated suckers rally” broker paying entities to borrow shares?

What I witnessed yesterday was coordinated buying. Every time shorts attempted to stop the run and take down the PPS they got stuffed. Is there such a thing as “short squeeze manipulation” to manipulate weak short traders into buying? Why would a Broker pay entities to borrow shares? Revenge against NIO? To exit a huge position by buying into the “payed” short sellers as they take short positions? To set up a short squeeze?
Or… is the broader market seeing the potential in NIO like we do. In particular the cost cutting measures and Chinese Government involvement.

We won’t know until after the fact….or never know for sure. Dark pools are designed to hide manipulation and shady activity from the public until after the fact.

HF's fearing the trade wars with America, Canada and Mexico are selling. They need to put their money somewhere safe and offshore. What better place to reinvest their capital than the most beaten down sector in China that is a bargain and ready to run?

My opinion as to the reason for the surge in the sector. This is not a NIO awakening. Either I'm correct or it's a coordinated suckers rally.

The cycle time to build a new battery swap-enabled model is about 18 months, and by 2027 and 2028 there would be a relatively large number of new models built using Nio's battery swap technology
The first non-Nio models from its battery swap alliance could be an SUV and a sedan from Chery's sub-brand Exeed.
Both models are expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2025.

Chinese National television is promoting NIO. In particular Battery Swap Stations are being promoted. The Chinese Government will undo damage caused by Shorting Syndicate blogs and social media who portray NIO as a corrupt Company that can’t be trusted.
