BaaS vs Purchase (cont.)
If you drive 13,489 miles annually and rely solely on public Level 2 charging, the cost could be between $770 to $963 per year.
If you rely solely on DC fast charging, the cost could be approximately $1,540 to $2,300 per year.
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) typically does not include a separate fee for battery swapping station access, as the BaaS subscription often covers the cost of battery swaps at designated stations.
Over a 10 year period BaaS is less expensive.

BaaS vs Purchase
ET9 (10 years)
$10800.00 with battery
$90,000 BaaS
$18,000 difference
$4,500 interest on $18,000 5 years @ 5%
$13,500 Depreciation/Degradation 3/4 life
$17,500 Total cost/loss in 10 years
Charging an electric vehicle (EV) at a public charging station typically costs between $10 and $30 per charge
BaaS $155 per month.
Purchase and tax exemptions.
$18,600 10 years
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) typically does not include a separate fee for battery swapping station access, as the BaaS subscription often covers the cost of battery swaps at designated stations.
The advantage is grid management, BESS convenience, no battery replacement cost, cheaper electricity, NIO subscription perks, electricity drive train diagnostics, upgrade for long trips, upgrade to newer battery technology, guaranteed battery quality.

NIO/CATL are joined at the Chinese Battery Swap Government hip.
Battery Asset Company, NIO, CATL and Sinopec is one hell of a Chinese Government Battery Swap monopoly.
I am liking my investment more today than ever before
Sinopec Group, or China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, is a wholly owned company by the China State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission
NIO and Sinopec entered a strategic partnership agreement on April 15, 2021, to collaborate on building a comprehensive charging and battery swapping network in China.
On March 13, 2025 CATL signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Sinopec Group (Sinopec) in Beijing.
…the two parties will accelerate the development of passenger vehicle battery swapping business and explore the feasibility of allocating commercial vehicle battery swapping facilities in integrated energy stations.

Battery Asset Company is State owned. NIO isn’t going anywhere. NIO/BaaS will be implemented in China. CATL and NIo will not compete against each other. They will each serve a different segment and complement each other. IMHO
NIO and CATL are collaborating on developing long-life batteries for EVs and battery swap stations
2024-03-14
CATL and NIO will work on research and development of long service life batteries, jointly tackle key technical problems, promote technical innovations, and accelerate the implementation of long service life battery solutions in battery swapping scenarios.
Battery Swap is here to stay..
On August 18, 2020, NIO, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (“CATL”), Hubei Science Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd. and a subsidiary of Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited (collectively the “Partners”) jointly established the Battery Asset Company. NIO and the Partners will each invest RMB200 million and hold 25% equity interest in the Battery Asset Company respectively. The Battery Asset Company is dedicated to purchase and own the battery assets, and lease the battery packs to users who subscribe to the BaaS model.
Guotai Junan International is ultimately state-owned, with Shanghai State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. as the controlling shareholder and Shanghai International Group Co., Ltd. as the ultimate controlling entity.
Hubei Science & Technology Investment Group Co., Ltd. (HBST) is considered a state-owned entity, specifically a government-related entity (GRE) and a flagship entity of the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone (HTDZ)
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is not state-owned, but rather a private company with investors, including some with connections to the Chinese government, holding stakes
While NIO is a privately held company, it has received significant financial support and investment from Chinese state-owned entities, particularly in Hefei, Anhui province, indicating a strong relationship with the Chinese government

Nio once again receives Government Support and advertising on National Public Television
Balancing the electrical grid will be a problem throughout the world going forward as EV popularity grows.
…balance the national electricity grid against the demand of the classic model of electric vehicles,
News
NIO is back on public television (Suzhou news channel). On this occasion, the presenter introduces to the audience the benefits of NIO's infrastructure and what it means to balance the national electricity grid against the demand of the classic model of electric vehicles, and how it can even provide energy to the system. Once again, Nio receives direct support from the government towards the model that will end up being imposed because it is beneficial for the entire industry and society, a mentality that guides the path of Chinese development.
