Already in Subscribers' Hands CONGRESS ASIA 2005, SINGAPORE, Sept.
27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), a leading
provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, today
unveiled the Carrier Edition of its dynamic Web content
mobilization data service offering, Sybase(R) mFolio(TM). In
addition to enhancing access to regular HTML and RSS-based content
from the Web, the Carrier Edition of mFolio now delivers features
that enable wireless subscribers to access audio and video
podcasts, photo sharing sites, and program customizable requests
for content update alerts. Sybase mFolio Carrier Edition supports
any Web-based or WAP-enabled feature phone, smart phone or PDA
currently available on the market allowing carriers and content
providers to easily deliver new or existing content to current
subscribers, without the need to deploy upgraded handsets or
requiring existing handsets to be reconfigured. "Wireless carriers
are interested in data services that make the Web and Web content
more accessible to their subscribers, increasing the value of the
carrier's data network," said Billy Ho, senior vice president and
general manager, Telecom and OEM Business Unit, Sybase, Inc. "Our
new podcast and photo gallery features matched with broad support
for already deployed feature phones in the Carrier Edition of
mFolio, are perfectly timed for our carrier customers to capitalize
on subscriber interest in using their phones to access the Web."
mFolio allows wireless subscribers to easily view all Web-based
content, not just content developed for mobile devices, thereby
enabling wireless subscribers to now browse and surf beyond
typically available content. Users can navigate the Web with
greater ease due to minimized, and in some cases completely
eliminated scrolling. All of these features work together to
provide the satisfying Web experience mobile users want, and
deliver the added value needed to warrant buying and/or upgrading
data plan subscriptions. "Wireless carriers are constantly
searching for high-value data solutions that inspire subscribers
and push the boundaries of mobile communications," said Adam Zawel,
director of the Wireless/Mobile United States Decision Service,
Yankee Group. "Sybase mFolio enables a carrier-offered service that
taps into personalization, and bridges the walled garden with the
broader Web." mFolio's newest feature, Content Alerting, similar to
Blackberry's e-mail push alerts, automatically notifies subscribers
when requested content -- such as commercial news, stock market
information, traffic and sports or podcasts and Web sites -- has
been updated and is ready for viewing. In addition, the ability to
cache content at the edge of the carrier's data network means that
subscribers can view this content much faster using mFolio. Sybase
mFolio Carrier Edition operates on a broad range of existing mobile
devices, enabling wireless carriers and content providers to easily
deliver content to the millions of phones already in the hands of
mobile subscribers. mFolio supports feature phones, smart phones
and PDAs with a Web or WAP browser, including those based on the
Symbian, Palm, Linux, and RIM platforms, including the popular Palm
Treo, RIM BlackBerry and Motorola RAZR handsets. Sybase mFolio
Carrier Edition is available now for carriers to begin trials or
for interested consumers to test drive the offering. To learn more
