UnitedHealth Group said Friday it has named Matthew W. Friedrich executive vice president and chief legal officer, effective Jan. 11, 2021.

The company said Mr. Friedrich will succeed Marianne D. Short, who is retiring as chief legal officer, a position she has held since 2013.

UnitedHealth said Mr. Friedrich was previously general counsel, chief corporate affairs officer and secretary at Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., where he had worked since 2017.
