JACKSON, Mich., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Customer enrollment in
Consumers Energy's Green Generation renewable energy program is
growing faster than a corn field in August and has reached 10,000.
That's up from 2,500 customer enrollments a little more than a year
ago. "We're delighted to see an increase in the number of customers
volunteering to support the development of Michigan-based renewable
energy," said Green Generation Program Manager Steve Stubleski.
"Customers are switched on to a brighter future by voting for
renewable green generation to power homes and businesses," said
Commissioner Monica Martinez, of the Michigan Public Service
Commission (MPSC). "The result is a Michigan that is cleaner and
less dependent on fossil fuels for its electricity." Since the
launch of the Green Generation Program in September 2005 following
MPSC approval, several new Michigan-based renewable energy projects
have started operations. The projects include five landfill gas
projects located near Lennon, Marshall, Whitehall and Zeeland. In
addition, Consumers Energy purchases electricity for the program
generated by two wind turbines near Mackinaw City. Consumers Energy
also has entered into contracts with other wind-generation projects
that are in various stages of development. All of the projects are
located in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The Green Generation Program
offers Consumers Energy's electric customers an opportunity to
support renewable energy by enrolling in the voluntary program and
paying a small premium. Green Generation is certified by the
nationally recognized Green-e Program which monitors voluntary
programs across the country. Customer participation options in the
Green Generation Program range from purchasing a "green block" of
power for as little as $2.50 per month, to matching total monthly
use, which will cost the average customer between $12 and $14 per
month. Information on the program is available at

subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to
nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68
Lower Peninsula counties. For more information about Consumers
