AnythingIT Releases White Paper on the Use of Prison Labor to Process E-waste
04 September 2013 - 11:00PM
AnythingIT, Inc., (OTCBB:ANYI), a leading information technology
electronics recycler and e-waste handler serving both government
and commercial markets, has just released an informative new White
Paper: The Use of Prison Labor – The Economic, Environmental, and
Security Concerns.
Prison labor is often utilized to process electronic waste
(e-waste). Approximately 17,000 inmates are employed by a single
organization that has had safety and security issues. This
controversial paper examines the history, problems, and current
status of this widely used practice.
In Grand Rapids, MI, U.S. Representative Bill Huizenga is
focusing on The Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR) with a new bill
that was introduced in May, 2013. Huizenga's bill would get rid of
that "no-bid" status, essentially forcing UNICOR to compete with
private companies. David Bernstein, CEO at AnythingIT states, "We
need to level the competitive playing field. UNICOR must compete
with small businesses for government contracts if small businesses
are going to have a chance to succeed."
