    THE NEW ZEALAND INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The Company has today declared a second interim dividend in respect of its
extended accounting period 1 November 2006 to 30 April 2008.

The second interim dividend of 2.5p net per Ordinary share will be paid on 29
February 2008 to the holders of Ordinary shares on the register at 22 February
2008. The ex-dividend date is 20 February 2008.

Your Directors previously declared an interim dividend for the period ended 31
October 2007 of 7.5 pence, that was payable on 18 January 2008 to shareholders
on the register on 21 December 2007.

The total dividends declared in respect of the extended accounting period 1
November 2006 to 30 April 2008 is 10.0p net per Ordinary share.
