Internap Network Services Corporation (AMEX:IIP), a leading provider of performance-based routing solutions over the Internet, today announced it will deploy its Flow Control Platform(TM) 10 Gigabit-per-second (FCP 10G) network appliance "live" within the InteropNet, the world's largest and diverse portable network. The InteropNet is specifically designed, built and managed to support Interop Las Vegas 2006, the leading trade show for enterprise IT and converged IP networks taking place from April 30 to May 5, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Internap network engineers are also part of the team building and managing InteropNet and will participate in the free engineer-led tours from the InteropNet Network Operations Center (NOC). The FCP is a premise-based route control appliance that sits within the two-tier 10Gb/s core InteropNet network to improve the performance of its multi-homed environment. The device allows network managers to proactively identify and choose the best performing paths for Internet traffic, while balancing a combination of cost and performance metrics such as price-per-MB and burst capability. The FCP also allows dynamic bandwidth allocation between MarquisNet and Qwest, the 2006 InteropNet Internet Service Providers. Internap testing revealed that nearly 35% of Internet traffic used paths of insufficient quality and would benefit from route control technology like the FCP, which addresses latency and packet loss. The FCP 10G will implement route changes in real-time to optimize the bandwidth required to support a variety of IP networking technologies showcased during the show. This high volume of network traffic will include voice, data and video generated by: -- Over 375 exhibitors on the show floor who will benefit from dedicated upstream Internet access of up to 10Gb/s. -- Performance testing of Open Source Software, Network Access Control and VoIP, and Security and Integration products and technologies at InteropLabs, the world's only real-time live interoperability test bed for the latest vendor-neutral, standards-based networking solutions. -- 350 press and analysts who will continuously file reports, reviews and updates on the latest technologies via web sites, blogs, streaming video podcasts, image galleries, and RSS feeds. "For 20 years, Interop has held a unique place in the IP infrastructure markets, and is responsible for fostering the innovation that has fueled the revolution and evolution in IP networking," said Lenny Heymann, Interop General Manager. "It's critical that we guarantee high performance and availability of our IP network since exhibitors and attendees from all over the world will need to access various IP addresses on-the-fly over the global public Internet," he added. "Our FCP minimizes latency by overcoming the limitations of standard BGP for sites that are multi-homed, and supports the high-bandwidth needs of next generation applications," said Eric Klinker, chief technology officer, Internap. "When performance is critical, the FCP's route control technology can handle the real-time demands of tough, high traffic environments like Interop." Media interested in a behind-the-scenes look at the InteropNet or reviewing an FCP demo can visit Internap at booth #2011. Brandon Ross, Internap's director of network engineering and a 10-year networking veteran at Interop, will participate in these free engineer-led tours from the InteropNet NOC. The Flow Control Platform(TM) (FCP) Deployed at the enterprise or service provider network edge, the Internap(R) Flow Control Platform(TM) (FCP) appliance is the only network appliance to intelligently route IP traffic across multiple Internet Service Provider (ISP) connections in real time by continuously monitoring end-to-end network performance. Additionally, by conforming to user-defined performance and cost policies, the FCP appliance enables customers to intelligently load balance and optimize their networks, typically reducing bandwidth costs by 20 to 50 percent, and lowering latency by an average of 35 percent while minimizing risk in the event of a carrier outage or brownout. The FCP's measurement capability gives customers better performance, fewer network incidents, sophisticated load balancing and easier troubleshooting, which enables successful deployment of "one-to-many" applications such as e-commerce, CRM, hosting, trading/clearing and all real-time traffic such as VoIP, video and collaboration. The FCP product line includes highly scalable solutions for IP traffic flow optimization flows of any size, from the largest content provider sites and enterprise networks, to remote branch offices and small-to-medium sized sites that are new to multi-homing. The FCP 10G model is ideal for improving the reliability of business-critical applications and content-driven sites with large distributed user bases, such as online social networking communities and e-commerce merchants.
