Carmel Wellso to Take Well-Deserved
Sabbatical
Janus Henderson (NYSE/ASX: JHG) announced today the hiring of
Matthew Peron as Director of Centralized Equity Research. He was
most recently Chief Investment Officer of City National Rochdale.
He will begin at Janus Henderson on April 13, 2020 and will be
located in the firm’s Denver, CO office. In this capacity, Mr.
Peron will oversee the firm’s Centralized Equity Research function
and be named as portfolio manager on all Research strategies. Mr.
Peron will report to George Maris, Co-Head of Equities for Janus
Henderson.
Carmel Wellso, Janus Henderson’s existing Director of Central
Equity Research, will begin a well-deserved, six-month sabbatical
beginning July 1, 2020. Until then, she will work closely with Mr.
Peron to ensure a seamless transition. She was heavily involved in
the selection of Mr. Peron and believes he is an excellent fit for
the Research team and Janus Henderson culture. After her 6-month
sabbatical, Ms. Wellso will determine in what capacity she would
like to return to Janus Henderson.
Effective April 13, 2020, Mr. Peron will become Portfolio
Manager on all Research strategies. There will be no change to any
of the Research strategies’ investment objectives or
philosophies.

Matthew Peron
Matthew Peron will become Director of Centralized Equity
Research for Janus Henderson. In this capacity, he oversees the
firm’s Centralized Equity Research function and is named as
Portfolio Manager on all Research strategies. In this role, he will
be responsible for the firm’s centralized equity research effort,
collaborating with portfolio managers, head of equities and global
chief investment officer. He will also lead Janus Henderson’s
Portfolio Oversight Team.
Mr. Peron has 29 years of financial experience, of which he
dedicated 8 years to fixed income. Further, he has 21 years of
experience working in various senior roles in equities, as a
portfolio manager, group lead, director of research, as well as
also running various quantitative strategies and teams.
He was most recently Chief Investment Officer for City National
Rochdale, a role he held since 2018. Prior to joining the firm, Mr.
Peron served as an Executive Vice President and Managing Director
of Global Equity at Northern Trust in Chicago and as a member of
the asset allocation committee. Prior to that role, he was the
director of equity research and was lead manager on several
fundamental and quantitative strategies at Northern Trust. Mr.
Peron earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in
electrical engineering from Swarthmore College. Additionally, he
sits on the board of the Illinois Hunger Coalition and is active in
non-profits that focus on developing skills and entrepreneurship in
underprivileged communities.
Carmel Wellso
Carmel Corbett Wellso is Director of Research at Janus Henderson
Investors. In this role, she is in charge of the firm’s centralized
equity research effort, which she will be handing over to Mr.
Peron. Ms. Wellso is responsible for maintaining a powerful and
successful investment culture by attracting and retaining strong
analysts, managing global research coverage, driving independent
research and collaborating with portfolio managers and the global
chief investment officer. As head of Janus Henderson’s Portfolio
Oversight Team, Ms. Wellso has overseen the firm’s research
strategies, which consist of the best ideas of the analyst team.
Additionally, she has extensive global investment experience and is
the recipient of the 2019 Lead Portfolio Manager in Global Equities
from the Women in Asset Management Awards, which recognizes the
outstanding innovation achieved by the women in the world of asset
management.
Before joining Janus as a research analyst in 2008, Ms. Wellso
was a partner focusing on global financial services at Standard
Pacific Capital. Prior to that, she was director of Asian equity
sales for UBS Warburg. Ms. Wellso also served as an assistant
director and Asian banking analyst with ING Barings Securities,
where she led consistently top-ranked financials teams. Ms. Wellso
began her investment career as a credit analyst at MHT/Chemical
Bank (JP Morgan Chase), focusing on emerging market sovereign
exposures and financial sector lending.
Ms. Wellso received her bachelor of arts degree in English
literature and business administration from Marquette University
and her MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. She
also served for two years in the U.S. Peace Corps in Kenya. Ms.
Wellso has 26 years of financial industry experience.
