Zero means next to nothing. Not sure how many of the positions are passive but Kingdon got run over on a horrendous purchase. It was like they did a favor to someone. Having crumbs from GX on the BOD is not helpful either.

Who is celebrating? I merely responded with facts to a post that claimed there is "zero institutional interest".

Less than 7% institutional investment is nothing to celebrate.

Where do you come up with "zero institutional interest?" The latest updated institutional holdings, showing a sharp increase in in institutional holdings in February were posted here on Friday. I do acknowledge the 3.25 million or so shares held by 64 institutions is a bit disappointing, although the list of the top 10 institutions holding NB shares was pretty interesting, e.g. "Largest shareholders include VTSMX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares, Vanguard Group Inc, Northern Trust Corp, Kingdon Capital Management, L.l.c., Jane Street Group, Llc, Cable Car Capital LLC, Citadel Advisors Llc, BlackRock, Inc., IWC - iShares Micro-Cap ETF, and Bank Of America Corp /de/ ." And, there is no way to tell what percentage of these holdings are in index funds due to NB being in the one Russell index. The largest Vanguard holding clearly appears to be an index fund investment.

I was told that COVID would have no effect on funding. Also the business engine started roaring to life in late 2021. The quest for critical metals has never been more in the public eye. Yet, the company cannot get any traction and zero institutional interest. That is the reality of the situation. Doing the r/s and bringing in GX was a nail in the coffin.

I do not know what the future holds for Niocorp but unless it is a home run deal, the initial wave of retail got wiped out. That is a fact.

How many more times does that need to be explained DOA? Mark Smith has acknowledged he should never have quoted the head of the lender that made the statement that a deal was imminent. But we all know that was very late in 2019, and just weeks later COVID hit and the US and entire world essentially shut down for quite a time and it was a completely risk-off environment, No one was doing any deals like this or funding $Billion projects like this one. Was it frustrating and unfortunate? Absolutely. And that lender never came back to the table. But, as things emerged from COVID, EXIM launched the "Made in America" initiative, changing its rules, and it became the best debt funding option. None of us is happy with the delays, or how the GXII RM went, but I still believe in the project and am confident it will be funded and built. And, the drop in share price down to the $1.30 range late last year during tax loss selling season was an excellent opportunity to add to positions for the long term.

I meant Trump, not the government. At the time I agreed with the company because the Don was toxic.

Just tell me where the other bids went to and I would be content. Mark had Niocorp down as a can't miss project and that was almost a decade ago. Imminent means imminent. What the hell happened?
👍️0
Prudent Capitalist Prudent Capitalist 16 hours ago
Not sure where you are coming from DOA. I assume you are once again claiming that NioCorp does not want the federal government anywhere near this project. But ever since mid-2022 when EXIM launched its "Make More in America" initiative, and for the first time began accepting applications to fund domestic projects on US soil, it became a no brainer for NB, given that the interest rates and other terms will be more favorable than any debt financing it could ever find anywhere else. SMFH
So in the end, Nio needs someone they never wanted near the project to help rescue them.

Elk Creek Project to Reduce US Reliance on China for Critical Minerals
By Oliver Harris / March 2, 2025

https://miningtechnologyinsights.com/2025/03/02/elk-creek-project-to-reduce-us-reliance-on-china-for-critical-minerals/
The Elk Creek Critical Minerals project in Nebraska, USA, is poised to revolutionize the global supply of critical minerals, with a particular focus on titanium, scandium, and niobium. This breakthrough is not just a geological triumph but a strategic geopolitical move that could reshape the dynamics of the mining industry and global trade. The project, developed by NioCorp, is set to become North America’s first and only processing and mining facility for these critical materials, marking a significant shift in the United States’ dependency on China for industry-critical raw materials.

I think the important take away here is that not only were NioCorp and Elk Creek actually mentioned by name, the entirety of the article is about them and how they could be THE solution to the China woes. And, it doesn't appear to be Sims or Smith generated.

I wasn't able to find it posted anywhere previously, so it was unlikely anyone else on this board had seen it. It was/is still on the homepage along with other recently published material. Also, why my sole comment was, "Just read it..." (and decide its value for yourself).

I note the lack of expertise. I doubt the company paid for the piece.

I wonder if the "author" Edwin O. is just more generative AI. This seems to be a grouping of previously stated information along with errors like the 2023 statement. Also, we haven't "secured" anything. The resource is in the USA, and its there if someone wants to fund its harvest. The last 10 years of can kicking has not pointed towards this being the "most wanted mine in history". I wonder how this wad of interesting text came into existence. It does sound nice.

I am wondering what the CapEx cost will be in 2025 dollars with all the hyper inflation that sleepy Joe presided over.... that $1.3B figure that was thrown around in the last FS era, will probably be updated to close to $1.6B (and that is even with the inclusion of the cap-ex saving RailVeyor choo choo train system..), Awhile back it was tossed around that between the EXIM loan and possibly the DOD throws additional funding in to cover the shortfall?? or are we staring at a HUGE Equity hit to cover the remainder of the financing (i.e., the balance of the total minus the EXIM ~$800M infusion)...... thoughts/comments????

Is the deal closable? That's the big question. Is the resource actually harvestable and is there any entity that wants to actually do it? Imminent wasn't imminent. Imminent wasn't anything near anything. Was it ignorance or deception by the veteran team?

It’s debatable, whether-or-not, this part is working

We must also strengthen our alliances with international partners while expanding our global partnerships in emerging markets. Australia’s recent “no-China” clause, backed by a $400 million Australian government investment in a rare-earth refinery, exemplifies how allied nations can bolster secure supply chains

Thanks for the DD

National View: US must build an independent critical-minerals supply chain
Opinion by Pini Althaus
March 01, 2025

https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/opinion/columns/national-view-us-must-build-an-independent-critical-minerals-supply-chain
The United States must incentivize domestic exploration. While major companies’ large mining projects ensure some production, a “bottom-up” approach focused on early-stage exploration by junior mining companies will ensure a long-term supply of domestically mined minerals. Funding for such high-risk exploration programs has become difficult to obtain from traditional mining investors and those seeking exposure to critical minerals, so the administration must seek ways to unlock widespread investment. Adopting measures similar to Canada’s flow-through shares system, which provides tax incentives to investors, would attract investment, accelerate discoveries, and unlock untapped resources.

Given the highly favorable environment we are in right now with the Trump administration, if Mark doesn’t get some traction soon, he needs to give it up to someone who can close a deal.

There no reason this project should not be financed and construction beginning ASAP. The project is on private property, said to be shovel ready and the minerals are needed yesterday. By all appearances, Niocorp management has failed miserably to advance the project and maintain investor’s equity the past few years.

Jim's response to PC- his focus will soon shift more to the domestic mining side once he realizes that, even if he gets some form of mining or resource concessions there, it will be many years before any private company is willing to do exploratory work on land that is littered with unexploded ordinance and where the Russians are still within rocket and artillery range.
