LOS ANGELES, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a
recent survey conducted by premier specialty sporting goods
retailer Sport Chalet, 58 percent of the respondents said that
their children do not attend summer camp when school lets out. With
the majority of kids staying home this summer, it's important to
provide activities to keep them active and engaged when away from
the classroom.
"While parents may opt out of sending their children to summer
camp for a number of reasons, they should still encourage kids to
get off the couch and enjoy the sun," said Sport Chalet Expert
Seton Kidd. "Sport Chalet provides a wide range of fun activities,
toys and equipment for kids to get the summer camp experience from
the comfort of their home or backyard."
To help kids turn off the TV and tune into the outdoors, Kidd
provides a selection of gear recommendations.
Water Fun: According to the survey, 56 percent of
Americans said that their children prefer spending time in the
water to other summer activities. Sport Chalet offers a selection
of water games and gear for kids to enjoy under adult
supervision.
- Transform the backyard into a water-filled wonderland for the
younger ones with an Intex Kid's Dinosaur Play Swim Center where
kids ages three and older can slide down the volcano, splash around
in the pool, stand under the trickling waterfall or get sprayed by
the inflatable palm tree.
- For the bigger kids, parents can unfurl the Slip N Slide Double
Wave Rider, which features dual lanes and sprays of water for an
easy way to glide into summer fun. Kids can also get an extreme
water fight going with the Stream Machine Water Launcher, which
shoots water up to 70 feet.
- Use the pool for more than just swimming. Kids and their
friends can challenge each other to a basketball or volleyball game
with the Swimways 2-in-1 Pool Game, or they can play a floating
game of cornhole with the Airhead Lob The Blob Game.
Team Sports: Just because it's summer, doesn't mean that
kids have to stop playing the sports they love during the school
year. Sport Chalet also offers a wide range of sports gear to kick
off a rousing game of basketball or soccer.
- For the practicing point guard, the portable Lifetime Front
Adjust Basketball System has a shatter-proof backboard and stable
base for kids to make a slam dunk every time. Kids can use it with
their Spalding NBA Hexagrip Neverflat Basketball, which features
air retention technology so the ball won't go flat.
- Every parent's soccer star can dribble the stylishly durable
Adidas Starlancer Soccer Ball around in the backyard. Kids can even
practice trick shots with the Franklin MLS Insta-Set Soccer
Goal.
- With the Schutt Throw Down Bases loaded, the kids will rally
around a game of kickball. They can send the indestructible Mikasa
Kick Ball flying for a guaranteed homerun.
Lawn Games: For an easy and efficient way to have maximum
fun, parents can simply set up a lawn game in the front or
backyard. Sport Chalet provides a few games that will liven up the
green.
- Kids can exercise accuracy and precision with the safe-to-use
Bear Archery Toy Crossbow. Aim for the target and see who can get
the most points in a competitive, more sophisticated game of
darts.
- The Park & Sun Sports Deluxe Tetherball Set will bring
playground fun to any home. With an easy set up, solid steel pole
and woven tether, the kids will play tetherball for hours.
