PR Newswire (US)
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AZZ
incorporated (NYSE:AZZ), a manufacturer of electrical products and
a provider of galvanizing services today announced that the
American Galvanizing Association, the galvanizing industry trade
association, has awarded the galvanizing segment of AZZ
incorporated with four "Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards."
The association presents annual awards in 13 industry categories to
recognize projects that utilize hot-dip galvanizing in an ideal,
creative, innovative, or monumental fashion. AZZ's International
Galvanizers, Inc. located in Beaumont, Texas was honored with the
"Most Distinguished Project" award for their work on the Suncor
Energy - Odyssey Project. The project focused on upgrading the
facility to produce products that meet the newly regulated emission
levels for low sulphur diesel fuel. The refinery provides a vital
link between the company's large scale oil sands resource base and
the growing energy market. AZZ's Electrical and Industrial Products
segment also played a significant role in this fast paced project.
Hot dip galvanized steel has a proven track record in the
Petro-Chemical industry and is the industry's coating of choice.
AZZ's Aztec Galvanizing Services -- Crowley was honored with an
award in the "Transportation" category with the Advanced Truckstop
Electrification Terminal (ATE). Truck drivers are required by law
to take mandatory breaks. Traditionally, drivers allowed their
trucks to idle to supply air conditioning or power for accessories.
The ATE allows the driver to turn off the engine and hook up to AC,
telephone, electric and internet saving fuel and the environment.
Currently there are 225 ATE systems built in the US and another 210
planned for 2007. Hot dip galvanized steel has proven to be a cost
effective, maintentance-free integral part of the ATE stations.
Additionally, the Crowley facility received an award in the
"Electrical, Utility and Communication" category for galvanizing
the Nevada Solar One- Solargenix Energy project. This is the third
largest solar energy center in the world and the largest capacity
facility built in 15 years. The massive installation covers 400
acres with reflective mirrors, which are computer-controlled to
rotate to the most effective angle to the sun. This solar field is
the first in the U.S. of this size and magnitude, but larger units
are planned. AZZ's Aztec Galvanizing Services -- Waskom captured
the "Food and Agriculture" award for galvanizing Live Poultry
Transport Cages and Equipment for Bright Coop. The cages are built
to move poultry from the grower to the processing plants. Bright
Coop uses hot dip galvanized steel for the cages because of its
performance in highly corrosive environments. The long life and low
maintenance provided by hot dip galvanizing enables Bright Coop to
provide a corrosive free product to the poultry industry that will
last for years to come. About the American Galvanizers Association
