AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global powertrain supplier BorgWarner (NYSE:BWA) will ship the millionth T-Trac(TM) torque management system from its Seneca, South Carolina facility to Honda Motor Company this month. Previously called InterActive Torque Management II (ITM II)(TM), the BorgWarner T-Trac(TM) system is the only active twin-coupled driveline system on the market today that provides side-to-side traction without the use of a costly differential gear set. In conjunction with BorgWarner vehicle dynamics controls, the system's two active couplings can be independently controlled. This provides significant improvement in vehicle cornering, acceleration and stability. The T-Trac(TM) system is part of BorgWarner's i-Trac(TM) family of products, which significantly enhance vehicle handling and performance. The system, which was developed jointly by BorgWarner and Honda, was produced beginning in August 2000 for the Acura MDX and was initially shipped to Honda of Canada Manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario. Production of the system for the Honda Pilot began in April 2002, and expanded again in 2005 to include the Honda Ridgeline. "One of our proudest achievements in connection with this program is a stellar quality record at Honda -- zero to two ppm combined with 100-percent on-time delivery since start of production," said Cindy Niekamp, President and General Manager, BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems. BorgWarner's performance with regard to the production of this system was recognized by Honda with the Honda Quality Performance Award for 2001, 2002, and 2004; the Honda Quality and Delivery Performance Award for 2003; the Honda Excellent Supplier Award for 2002; and the Honda ISO 14001 Recognition Award for 2004. "The shipment of the millionth BorgWarner T-Trac(TM) system to Honda this month is the culmination of the important lessons BorgWarner has learned from Honda during the six-year life of this program to date," said Ms. Niekamp. "They include the benefits of close collaboration between customer and supplier, a sharp focus on data rather than on opinions, relentless attention to detail, and a passion for quality and continuous process improvement." All three of the BorgWarner T-Trac(TM)-equipped Honda vehicles have been honored with prestigious industry awards. The Acura MDX was named 2001 Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year by Motor Trend; the Honda Pilot was named one of Car and Driver's "Five Best Trucks" for five consecutive years; and the Honda Ridgeline was named Motor Trend's 2006 Truck of the Year. To mark this production milestone, a celebration with Honda and BorgWarner executives and local and state officials is planned for October at BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems in Seneca.
