Tyler’s Excellence Awards for Odyssey recognize organizations
that demonstrate excellence in deploying Odyssey in novel and
impactful ways that extend best practices. Award submissions were
evaluated by a panel of Tyler leadership and entries were judged on
business value, maturity, innovation and relevance to other public
sector organizations. Additional criteria met by award winners
includes:
- Creating a unique process that utilizes
a Tyler application
- Realizing significant savings after
implementing a Tyler product
- Increasing staff productivity by
implementing a Tyler product
- Empowering employees, citizens or
vendors
Peoria County, Illinois, deployed Odyssey’s integrated case
management system in 18 months and enabled instant access to case
information for court staff and the public. The county also made it
easier to import traffic citations issued by the city of Peoria,
the largest municipality within the jurisdiction. Peoria County is
at the center of a multiple county region along the Illinois River,
midway between Chicago and St. Louis, and has a population of
182,500.
North Dakota’s courts used Odyssey to streamline processes to
manage complex cases, including asbestos cases. The enhanced
process decreased the length of time to settle civil litigation
cases from years to months. The court system also evolved Odyssey’s
document management capabilities, saving staff hours and reducing
court costs.
Washtenaw County, Michigan, rapidly deployed Odyssey for all
case types, implementing multiple courts in one year. The county
eliminated paper files by scanning all case documents and shredding
paper files after 60 days. Washtenaw increased case file
accessibility, creating access anywhere in the courthouse, and
providing online access to the public and attorneys. Washtenaw
County, with a population of 354,000, is located in southeast
Michigan and is home to Ann Arbor and the University of
Michigan.
The Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan moved four separate
systems onto a single integrated Odyssey platform for criminal,
civil, family and juvenile courts, and implemented e-filing, which
resulted in an increase in case filings processed to more than
300,000 per year. The Third Judicial Circuit also became an early
adopter of Odyssey Guide & File™, an online portal that
provides self-service access for self-represented litigants, and
used new technology to continuously improve processes to achieve an
electronic courtroom.
Odyssey’s Tyler Excellence Award national winners were honored
on May 4 at the Connect 2015 user conference in Atlanta, where they
were presented with the award and given the opportunity to share
their best practices and lessons learned with their public sector
peers.
Oregon Fourth Judicial District, Clark County District Court,
Nevada, and Florida’s Lee County and Miami-Dade County were all
recognized as Tyler Excellence Award finalists for their successes.
Oregon Fourth Judicial District improved access to justice and
increased operational efficiency in Multnomah County; Clark
County’s District Clerk’s Office implemented mandatory e-filing and
decreased service times; Lee County, part of Tyler’s Early Adopter
Program, was the first to implement Odyssey 2014 and shared its
knowledge and documented processes with other Florida counties; and
Miami-Dade County implemented Odyssey Batch Scanning™ in less than
four months to meet the state mandated timeframe for civil
operations to be fully electronic.
“We are pleased to publicly recognize innovative clients that
serve as thought leaders for other courts. These clients are
continuously finding ways to improve their court systems, and use
Odyssey to create efficiencies and improve access to justice,” said
Bruce Graham, president of Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division.
“We thank all of our Excellence Award participants for sharing
their successes. Congratulations to the national winners and
finalists of Odyssey’s Tyler Excellence Awards.”
