Popularity and Positive Customer Feedback Driving Interest In
Locking and Unlocking Credit Files ATLANTA, April 16
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In its first few months, Equifax Credit
Report Control (CRC) has received excellent reviews from Equifax
customers who are seeking the best available protection from the
possible impact of identity theft. In October, 2007, Equifax
announced that consumers who purchase its Equifax Credit Watch(TM)
credit monitoring products have the option of locking and unlocking
their Equifax credit file through their Internet-based credit
monitoring account. This process can help prevent new accounts from
being opened without permission. In the first four months, more
than 50 percent of new credit monitoring customers have signed up
for Equifax Credit Watch with the new CRC feature. More than 600
Equifax customers participated in an online survey in February and
the majority responded that the ability to lock and unlock their
credit file in real time ranked as the top reason for owning the
product. In fact, 72 percent of those customers would recommend
Equifax Credit Watch with CRC to others and are satisfied with the
product. "I love the alerts and being able to lock the report,"
said one customer. "I like being able to protect my credit with no
worries," said another survey respondent. "Consumers are quickly
discovering that monitoring their credit combined with the ability
to lock and unlock their Equifax credit file is the best way to
protect themselves from the effects of identity theft," said Steve
Ely, president, Equifax Personal Information Solutions. "We are
very pleased that consumers are recognizing that this level of
protection is superior to other alternatives in the market." More
than 8 out of 10 Equifax Credit Watch customers are concerned about
the effects of identity theft, and nearly 6 out of 10 either have
been identity theft victims or know someone who has been a victim.
