TOKYO--Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.TO) said Wednesday it is
recalling a total of 184,996 vehicles worldwide due to a faulty
computer system in the power steering unit.
Toyota will recall 109,168 Vitz compacts--known as the Yaris
overseas--in Japan, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Latin
America and Africa. The affected vehicles were made between
November 2010 and March 2012.
The car maker will also recall 65,080 Ractis compacts--knowns at
the Verso-S in some markets--in Japan, other Asian markets, Europe
and the Middle East. They were built between August 2010 and August
2011.
Toyota will also recall 10,748 Ractis compacts produced for Fuji
Heavy Industries Ltd. (7270.TO) which sells them as the Subaru
Trezia.
There have been no reports of injuries or accidents because of
the defective parts, a Toyota spokeswoman said.
