Anglo American PLC said Friday that it expects a reduction in
iron-ore volume production and thermal-coal export due to the
three-week lockdown imposed by the South African government in
response to the spread of the coronavirus.
The South Africa-based mining multinational said that it
estimates iron-ore 2020 production from its mine at Kumba to be
lower by 2 million tons to 3 million tons, while thermal-coal
export for the year is forecast to be reduced by 1.5 million tons
to 2 million tons.
Anglo American has said in recent days that similar restrictions
in the U.K. and Peru have slowed down its operations in those
countries too.
