AFC Energy PLC said Wednesday that the ZeroCoaster
ammonia-fuelled cargo ship design has been awarded Approval in
Principle status.
The London-listed hydrogen technology company has been working
with Vard Engineering Brevik AS, ABB and other partners since June
to design and engineer a propulsion system for a bulk carrier ship
which is fuelled with green ammonia.
The technology chosen for the ship's 1.2-megawatt power
requirement was AFC's new S Series platform.
The Approval in Principle status was awarded by international
certification agency DNV and means that the ship's design is
feasible and there are no obstacles to it being commercially
realized.
Vard, the leader of the ZeroCoaster consortium, will now start
discussions with prospective customers for the purchase of
ammonia-fuelled ships.
Shares in AFC at 0852 GMT were up 5.7% at 51.60 pence.
